So England have been knocked out of the World Cup 2010. Surely there aren't too many of us who are genuinely surprised? Yes this was supposed to be our World-Cup winning 'golden generation', and yes, that ball was so far over the line even the burk sporting sunglasses in the crowd could see it. But did we at any point look like we could, or deserve to, win the game? No, we really didn't.

The Germans played us off the park at certain points and England never reached that expected level of form. What a lot of people are struggling to understand however, is the approach taken to the game (and the 3 previous group games) by England coach Fabio Capello.

During the qualifiers, England were outstanding, brushing teams aside with ease and playing the like potential world champions we all know they can be. So what exactly happened to make the team stop playing like that? Fabio Capello happened. He decided, for reasons really known only to him, to change the team that had looked to fantastic in the run-up to the tournament. Let's take England vs. Croatia in the qualifying rounds for example, we hammered them and who were the best two players; Theo Walcott and Joe Cole. Capello left Walcott at home and gave Joe Cole around 20 minutes over two games, with him never starting.

I don't understand which England he's watching, but he should be getting himself tested for better prescription glasses, because whatever Mr. Capello is seeing, the rest of the country aren't. For example, i'd like to know what Capello sees in Heskey; the striker who can't score. He should be in the Wizard of Oz; the lion, tinman, scarecrow and the donkey. Capello argues he brings the best out of Wayne Rooney. Does he really? When was this? Rooney looked to be imitating David Blaine to me; 40 days in a box without doing anything interesting whatsoever.

Then there's the formation. Everyone in the country was pleading with Capello to put Gerrard up with Rooney in our 4-5-1 formation. But it seems Fabio is in need of a good hearing aid as well as better glasses, because he consistently played 4-4-2 with Gerrard on the left.

Let's have Stuart Pearce as England manager, we can't get any worse and at least he'll give us a bit of passion. Bring on the 2014 Fifa World Cup.

“Air” McNair Of Titans

The NFL’s Tennessee Titans, formerly acknowledged as the Houston Oilers – one particular from the original members with the long-gone American Football League, have been playing football in Tennessee since 1997. For most of their existence in Tennessee, the team was led by one particular quarterback: the now-deceased Steve “Air” McNair. An alternately beloved and lamented quarterback in the course of his years with the Titans, McNair led them through some from the ideal years of their franchise. With four playoff appearances, plus a berth in Super Bowl XXXIV, McNair left his imprint on the group as the Titans’ passing leader inside the record books.

College Days

When he primary went to college, McNair had his choice of schools to attend. One particular of them, the University of Florida, wanted him as a defensive back. Mainly because his desire was to play the quarterback position, he opted to attend a Football Championship Subdivision school instead: Alcorn State. The school’s football program received a much-needed boost during McNair’s tenure as quarterback, as he proceeded to break all on the FCS records for passing. By the time his senior season was complete, he had thrown for nearly 14,500 yards, and compiled over 16,000 yards total. In his senior campaign alone, he nearly broke the 6,000 yard total, while passing and rushing for just more than fifty touchdowns.

As an Oiler and Titan

Drafted by the Oilers in 1995, McNair would see limited action for his initial two seasons due to the presence of much more veteran quarterback Chris Chandler. When he did become the starter in 1997, he led the team to an eight and eight record. Although the team’s results were breakeven, his personal totals were a lot more impressive. With more than 2,500 yards of passing and only thirteen passes that resulted in interceptions, Air McNair made a strong statement for the league that he was every bit as excellent as he had been advertised as being. By the time the 1999 season began, McNair had matured into a competent leader for his group – in addition to being a flashy quarterback who posed threats both via the air and on the ground. Although injured for five games inside season, McNair recovered enough to lead his team to a thirteen and three season along with a place within the playoffs.

Super Bowl XXXIV

After winning their playoff games, McNair and his Titans had to face the Rams as well as the Greatest Show on Turf. Although there was an opportunity for the Titans to win the game with only seconds remaining, McNair’s receiver, Kevin Dyson, was tackled a yard shy in the end zone as time ran out – on a play that is now merely known as “The Tackle.” It would turn out to be McNair’s only shot at the Super Bowl trophy.

From that point on, McNair would still show flashes of brilliance, but nagging injuries and circumstance would keep him from ever achieving the greatness of potential for which many had patiently waited. In July of 2009, he was killed in an apparent murder-suicide committed by his then-mistress, Sahel Kazemi.

Miami football has been around given that 1926. The program presently plays from the ACC(Atlantic Coast Conference). From the football program's history they have totaled 5 national championships with one of the most recent coming back in 2001. Miami is currently ranked #4 all time in college football titles. There have been two previous players that have won the Heisman Trophy. They also hold the record for one of the most consecutive home victories with 58. Miami is regarded well for their players obtaining drafted from the NFL Draft. Back inside the 2004 of the NFL Draft, Miami had a record 6 players taken from the 1st round. They also have the record for most consecutive years(14) of having a player drafted from the 1st round.

Miami is also regarded for having several extremely touted coaches. Jimmy Johnson(also former NFL head coach) coached the team from 1984-1988. Another former NFL head coach(Dennis Erickson) coached the school from 1989-1994. Butch Davis then followed from 1995-2000. Starting in 2001, a lesser regarded coach(Larry Coker) was hired. He coached the team through 2006. The current head football coach is Randy Shannon. He's been at the command given that 2007. Miami has appeared in 33 bowl games & have won 18 of those. Their two biggest rivals are Florida State & Florida. There have been many great players come via the University of Miami.

One bad flaw facing Miami is the big brawl that happened back in 2006 in a game versus FIU(Florida International University). The brawl took almost 20 minutes before things got back under control. Due to this brawl, there was 13 Miami players suspended for one game.In addition to a couple previous Heisman winners, Miami also has many other players inside past with awards. There have also been a few coaches to take home awards as well. Miami baseball has been amongst the elite programs because 1973. A whopping 23 appearances within the College World Series. Also, out of those appearances, 4 national championships. The baseball team, like the football, plays inside the ACC(Atlantic Coast Conference). However, that didn't happen until 2004 when Miami switched over from the independent status.

The 1st of 4 national championships for Miami in baseball came in 1982. 3 years later they captured one more title. It wasn't long until an additional run. Winning championships in 1999 & 2001.Jim Morris has been head coach for the past 16 years. The only other Miami baseball coach to have a longer tenure was Ron Fraser from 1963-1992. Both of these coaches have two national titles each. Fraser in 1982 & 1985 while Morris in 1999 & 2001.

There have also been quite a few former Miami baseball players in MLB. Some of the current MLB players are Ryan Braun & Pat Burrell. There's something you may not have known about the baseball program. The current baseball stadium is now named after current Yankee great Alex Rodriguez. This all due to a $3.9 million donation by him back in 2003. Not bad to see from one of the greatest baseball players in the game.

Tryouts soccer

What if someone told you that there are proven methods of increasing your team’s chances of winning by way of elegant soccer coaching? For example, before the day of tournament, you must diligently work at getting your players ready both physically and mentally.

If you help them understand that they are working harder than the opposition, they will be better equipped to win.

Before the kick off: Warm-up soccer drills give the team a winning edge. For instance, who will take which position and play from where.

The kick off - make a plan and remain calm: make the kids concentrate on the first few plays of the game, for instance, first corner, and first attack. Players can then get into their positions faster right at the beginning of the game.

Soccer Coaching

In soccer coaching, mental rehearsal just before the kick off works well, when players imagine what they are going to do. To take an example, selecting the player who they intend to mark. If the players are prepared in this manner, they can make an impact in the first few minutes of the game itself.

Tempo - move at your pace: set the speed of the game in the same way as the team moves towards the restart. Slow things down by slowly moving to a throw in or a free kick. Then manipulate the pace of the game again by taking your position before the opponents arrive.

Game-breakers - timing: Each side has one or more players who are more likely to make the essential breaks to score goals or set up the goals. Therefore, during soccer training, create plays that result into the defense getting confused and then introduce the game breakers.

What it translates into is that teams will prepare themselves to stop the best players, but will ultimately find it more difficult to get back once they have been forced out of position.

Patience: Every team that wins is a patient team. They must have great confidence in their plan and the willingness to execute it. They understand that every move will not break through, but continuous attacks will eventually wear down the opposition and create the opportunities to score.

The big shots in the team must be aware of this and move as per the plan unless there is a decision to change it.

The referee: no matter how good or bad, soccer referees play an important role in deciding the pace of the game. To maintain the winning streak, it is critical to change direction and compromise. In essence, follow the soccer skills and play the game as per the way a referee chooses to.

All efforts notwithstanding, it doesn’t help at all to enter into argument or disagreeing with the referee.

Essential Football Training Equipment

Football season can be a very short and fast season. Football is a sport that requires skill and a physically strong body. For young players who want to stay in shape during off-season, football training equipment and football training exercises are essential.

For football training equipment, the very first thing needed is a playing football. Depending on the age of the player, they can choose from a Pee-wee league sized football or a varsity football. Then there are weighted footballs designed to improve hand grip and strength of the throwing arm. The weighted football will help the player throw with greater accuracy, at a greater distance. To improve speed, ankle and wrist weights are used, as well as a economic speed jump rope. Other football training equipment includes an agility ladder, passing machine, blocking sleds, tackling dummy and kicking tee.

After a season of football, it is best to take at least a couple of weeks off to allow the body to rest before starting football training exercises. There are many components that a player must work on to be good at the sport. The exercises to prepare the football season should focus on to improve strength, conditioning, balance and speed.

Youth football training exercises are not too strenuous, but strenuous enough to get the young player in tip-top shape that will help avoid serious injury too. Many times the exercises are fun, all the while training different parts of the body plus getting the player ready for positions needed on the field.

The bear crawl is an exercise that is much appreciate by youth football palyers where they gets on all fours and crawls like a bear. When the left arm moves, then the right leg moves in syncro and vice versa. This exercise trains the football player for using the 4-point stance in defense or blocking. To also help with blocking, push-ups are simple but important as they build strong arms and body strength to successfully block an opponent.

Sit-ups are used to even out the body movements, and then finally the football player will move to crunches. To improve lower body balance, the duck walk is included in the exercise routine. Crab walking will work several muscles at once that are sollicited with football.

Other good exercises can include jumping jacks, toe touches and squats. The player can run short sprints to gain strength in the legs and increase running speed specially recommanded for running back position. Using tires for a player to run through will help with balance, accuracy and control.

Before any football training exercise can begin, it is important to keep in mind the age of the player. A child under 12, unless instructed closely by a coach, should stay away from too much strength training, even push-ups and sit-ups. It is best to take the children age into consideration and look up exercise resources that are fit for the child's age range. If in doubt, contact a Pediatrician who can better advise what football training exercises are best for the specific age group.

Weight training soccer

It’s not necessary that you agree, but you should listen to this. You can greatly benefit from weight training soccer when coaching your players in a sport that requires a lot of strength, and, or explosive power. If player do not need strength and power to a large extent even for them, strong abdominal and lower back muscles are helpful.

Here are the basic principles of weight training for soccer displaying simple activities to describe those principles.

A vital principle in soccer strength training is, Specificity. The theory is to design your training sessions to match the player’s activity on the field. Take for example running and swimming, a great exercise for runners and swimmers respectively.

With a view to develop power, the speed of the training or exercise is vital. A number of thing which are important while planning weight training programs are the players role in team sports, their age, physical and mental capacity to take stress, and the level at which they are to play.

Soccer Fitness

Having this information when preparing a fitness training program, can lead to a good start.

For over all physical conditioning you should arrange those exercises which develop specific training. For example: swimmers also run and lift weights to improve their aerobic and strength and power fitness.

Injury prevention is another aspect of weight training soccer that is often overlooked. It is necessary to prevent injury although it is not the direct factor to contribute towards to the play however it enables the players to maintain their fitness in order to perform their best at the special times of the season.

Running, sprinting, turning and twisting, side-stepping, and getting ready for a shot are all the exercises performed in soccer. It is therefore necessary that the chains of muscles used in these activities, called the "anterior and posterior chain," are worked upon for strength, stability and power.

The most useful workouts are the core lifts, like squats and deadlifts for forming these muscles. The general soccer fitness program may be used commonly but these two core lifts are very essential for leg, hip, back and abdominal strength.

You may also include a swimming program to focus added attention on the shoulders, arms and back muscles.

Strength programs normally consist of heavy loads and a small number of repetitions. As we have talked earlier some sports require mass and power but some others like soccer requires a good combination of strength with flexibility, speed and resistance; especially the midfielder.

Even if primary strength, power or endurance gains are absent, developing particular muscle groups would also help to increase performance. These include the lower back and hamstrings, and the quadriceps muscles that direct knee joint function.

So there you have it. Keep these points in mind when weight training soccer since football is a sport for which you may not initially consider weights to be an advantage. Children Can’t Always Beat The Heat

Speed exercises in the summertime means hiking temperatures and young people practicing athletics in the heat. Thus, young athletes do not adapt to hot weather like adults. Don't underestimate the significance of the warning signs for heat illnesses and preventing them. These illnesses can be any type such as heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Whether your child or your team is doing strength training workouts as a coach, or parent,  you want to be aware of the seriousness of heat-related illnesses. In actuality, youngsters are the most vulnerable to heat illness.  The death rate for heat stroke in children is anywhere from 17 to 70 pct. The factors to consider are the gravity of the illness and the youth's age.

Children suffer heat-related illnesses when their bodies can not compensate for the heat and cool itself.  Young people are more susceptible to heat illness because they can't adjust as quickly or as well to changes in temperatures as do adults. Children are more at risk to heat illness since they can't adapt as quickly or as well to changes in temperatures. In addition, they produce extra heat with activity. Young people also perspire at a greater body temperature than adults and do not perspire as much.  For obese kids who have constant illnesses are more susceptible to hot weather when exercising outdoors.

SYMPTOMS

Heat Cramps - agonizing, involuntary muscle contractions, usually in the gastrocnemius or hamstring tissues (the muscles at the rear of the calves and thighs)

Dehydration - fatigue, thirst,  lightheadedness, less-frequent urination,  disarray, escalated heart rate and breathing, desiccated skin,  dry mouth and mucous membranes

Heat Exhaustion - clammy, pallid skin, sweating,  listless (fatigue), pounding head and or wooziness

Heat Stroke - Loss of consciousness, confusion or hallucinations, headache, agitation, high body temperature, absence of sweaty, deep or shallow breathing, weak pulse rate, seizures|

PREVENTATIVE MEASURES
Be aware that temperatures over 80 degrees make conditions favorable to heat illness..  It also important to know that excessive humidity reduces your body's ability to release excess heat by perspiring. Prevent heat illness by getting children used to the hot weather. Raise periods of intensity of workouts over the first two weeks and avoid hard work in the first week Morning or early evening are the cooler parts of the day and optimal for practices. Ensure young people rest often. Push fluids to children and teens prior to practice. Have plenty of fluids available during practice, preferably water. Although they might not be thirsty, youngsters should drink fluids every 20 minutes when exercising. Fluids to keep away from are caffeine and everything effervescent. With clothing, have kids wear well-ventilated, sweat-absorbent and light-weight.

Whether or not your youngster or your team is doing speed and agility training as a handler or parent, you want to be aware of the criticalness of heat-related sickness.  Respect the hot temperatures or there could be catastrophic consequences.

Weight training soccer

Weight training soccer is vital for sports training in today’s soccer world; you might be aware of that already, as it is required for creating tougher and faster muscles. The soccer fitness plan discussed in this article will help you prepare your players for playing soccer at a higher level.

The new theory of soccer weight training is to have strong and fast muscles with higher stamina rather that to keep on adding pounds of muscle bulk. Though the importance of upper body weight training for soccer is not as much as the legs, we still go on with it for general conditioning and strength.

You should start your fitness training with the legs first. You can start the warm up session with squats. Now place the bar with which your players can make 20 reps. Let's say they are pretty strong, so tell them to begin with 220 pounds. The exercise involves getting under the bar then placing it on the upper back and finally standing up with it.

They should then get out of the stands and stand with their feet and shoulder width apart. After that they must lower their body while holding on to the bar till their hips are a little bit below the top of their knee. At this point in weight training soccer, players should quickly rise to the full standing position and exhale. They should be motivated to do this for 20 reps even when they are totally worked out.

Soccer Fitness

Next is working on hamstrings, but before that have a 5-10 minutes break. 4 sets of 15 reps each should be completed by them. During each set of Leg Curls, Stiff-Legged Dead lift should be performed with 4 sets of 15 reps. Hamstrings are vital for players speed, thus we would want them to be strong enough.

Finish the leg workouts on Standing calf-raise machine and doing 3 sets of 25 reps

Start the upper body workout with the Incline bench press.
Once the players have performed the warm ups, tell them to carry on by putting more weights such that the next set of 10 reps get harder. The players must repeat the 5 sets 10 times with weights, while stretching their chest and shoulders and at the end of each set stop and relax for 2 minutes.

Now we move to the second workout of this session of soccer strength training which are the pull-up exercises. Their palms must be facing their body so that they can exercise their biceps and back muscles. Finally the upper body exercises include abdominals and performing 5 sets of 20 or more reps of leg raises. The final exercise is sit-ups, complete 5 sets of 50 or more.

We would say in the end that to make quality players of soccer, weight training soccer is only a small fragment of the entire training program. You are welcomed to our youth soccer coaching community coming up more information about various weight training exercises relevant to the game of soccer; it also has videos, articles, pod casts, and newsletters available for you.

Weight training soccer

You would be surprised to find out that the objective of weight training soccer is to develop the muscles that support the joints instead of just focusing on growing muscle mass. It calls for special fitness training sessions off the field and off the ball with a view to segregate and concentrate on certain muscle groups.

Focusing on these target areas will generate superior movement and flexibility causing higher velocity and strength.

Core: The abdominals, titled as the ‘core’ is the area first area to concentrate upon. “Core” is the portion of the body which starts from the breast bone till the lowermost part of the pelvis area. This portion of the body is the origin point of power, gravity and balance in the body.

Hence all the physical actions are initiated from the core A strong and a well developed abdominal core also ensures a well-balanced back, especially the Lumbar region. It also improves the posture.

Soccer Fitness

Legs: The quadriceps are helpful in pumping the heart. Therefore they are the largest muscle groups of the human body and supply vast amount of blood to the heart. So, even walking is good exercise in weight training soccer as each leg helps the heart push a lot of blood through the entire body.

Powerful and stable leg muscles are vital for the hips, knees and the ankles to hips, to bear all the power and energy produced in hitting the ground.

Back, Chest and Neck:The linking relationship between the core and the ends is provided by these parts of the body. These areas must never be neglected in soccer strength training because their growth is linked with the rest of the body.

Arms: The arm plays a vital part in soccer to help maintain balance while you jump to head a ball or when you suddenly change directions. A powerful jump is made by throwing the arms in the air.

Plyometric: For excellent result you should use both weight training with carefully planned plyometric program. They work alongside to create an individual and a team that will show improvements well within the first half of the season.

Always remember to give importance to the core as only a well-developed soccer fitness program to develop the core will positively aim these areas.

Program: Normally such a program should be designed which is measureable and specific to an individual’s requirement and used at the introduction of the season. The thorough improvement of an individual consist of aiming specific parts of the body first with the core and then heading for every section of the body.

In the end we say that weight training soccer can be applied by mentally preparing the players; because it is needed that the players and the team help each other to own the program. Early Christmas Gifts For Green

Despite being Scottish, i do find myself supporting England when it comes to the World Cup. But 2010 has already proved a difficult year, even for an arm's-length England fan. The warm up matches before the World Cup saw a fairly lucky win over Mexico (who dominated the game for the most part), followed by a even luckier win against the Japanese.

England's arrival in South Africa for the tournament itself didn't quite go to plan either, with a pretty average display against the renowned footballing country that is USA. The man who suffered most, perhaps fairly, was goalkeeper Robert Green, failing to collect a mediocre attempt on goal and instead allowing it to trundle across the line for the USA to equalise.

It would be fair to say it was a calamitous mistake and will no doubt have upset the man himself. So if you were (or are) a member of Robert Green's family, now might be a good time to get him an early Christmas present to cheer him up. If England are to move forward in the tournament with Robert Green in goal, then he will undoubtedly need the rest of his team to rally around him and give him some kind of confidence boost before the kick off against Algeria. Ideally we need to send the perfect Xmas gift for him, so perhaps a giant inflatable ball ... you know, for training purposes. Not the one that Liverpool so love, but Wayne Rooney could fire it at him all day long and not even Green could drop that one, thus restoring a little confidence.

Maybe the gift should be a table football game, (maybe an unusual gift for him perhaps), complete with no goalkeepers, just to replicate how England fans felt against the USA. If we are even smarter, perhaps we can persuade the next referee that the Kickster Goal Pro 2000 goalposts are actually standard size, but then England didn't seem all that clever at scoring unless the posts were placed in row Z.
